PROP 8 FEAR MONGERS COME TO OREGON
Two big pieces of news came out this week – reminding us of the importance of voting YES on Measures 66 and 67.
According to a study by the Williams Institute at UCLA, tens of thousands of Lesbian, gay and bisexual Oregonians face severe cuts to critical services like HIV treatment and prevention, civil rights enforcement, mental health programs, education and public safety if Oregon voters do not pass Measures 66 and 67.
In a dramatic illustration of the impact of failing to pass Measures 66 and 67, the Oregon Department of Human Services predicts that cuts to HIV testing and treatment program could result in 35 additional Oregon deaths.
If this isn't reason enough to Vote YES on Measures 66 and 67, the Opposition Campaign is funneling thousands of dollars to the leading anti-gay political organization in the country – Schubert Flint Public Affairs. These people were the architects of Prop 8 in California. They stripped away marriage rights in both California and Maine.
Join us in voting YES on Measures 66 and 67 – to protect vital services, and to tell these out of state, anti-gay groups that their brand of intolerance is not welcome here.
This is a critical election. To help make a difference, volunteer a couple hours in your community. To get involved, email Thomas@basicrights.org today!
For many gay and transgender Oregonians who could lose critical services, this election will have an immediate impact. Vote YES on Measures 66 and 67.
In solidarity,
Jeana Frazzini Executive Director Basic Rights Oregon Full Story. [1/15/10]
